Mission Statement

The mission of the Lawton Police Department’s Volunteer Chaplain Program is to provide spiritual and emotional support to law enforcement personnel, their families, and the community during times of crisis, ensuring that individuals facing challenges find comfort, guidance, and a compassionate presence. Our mission is to foster a sense of unity, resilience, and well-being within the police department and the community by offering confidential and non-judgmental assistance rooted in faith and compassion.

What is a Chaplain?

A volunteer chaplain is a clergy person with a passion for serving the Lawton Police Department and the Lawton community. These chaplains serve all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, creed, or religion.

How it works

The volunteer chaplains are available to the Lawton Police Department and the Lawton Community whenever they are needed. A chaplain may be called out to a scene or incident at the request of an officer or if requested by a citizen.

Duties of a Chaplain

The duties of the chaplains include, but are not limited to the following:

· Assisting in making notifications to families of department members who have been seriously injured or killed.

· Visiting sick or injured law enforcement personnel in the hospital or home.

· Attending and participating in funerals of active or retired members of the department.

· Assisting personnel in the diffusion of a conflict or incident when requested.

· Responding to natural, accidental deaths, suicides, attempted suicides, family disturbances, and any other incidences where their presence is appropriate or requested.

· Counseling Officers and other personnel with personal problems, when requested.

· Responding to major disasters and critical incidents.

· To provide available resources and services that the clergy possess to both the community and police.

· To respond whenever requested by police.

· To serve as a resource to other churches to disseminate factual information concerning police activities and to gather information, including answers to questions that citizens might have.
