Planning Department

The Planning Department reviews development plans, building permits, and business licenses for compliance with the City’s Zoning Code and Land Use Plan as part of its comprehensive planning. The department also conducts transportation planning by managing the Metropolitan Transportation Plan along with grants for compliance with federal requirements and provides oversight to the Lawton Area Transit System (LATS). The Planning Department staff supports the City Planning Commission (CPC), Lawton Urban Renewal Authority (LURA), Downtown Lawton Architectural Review Committee (DLARC), Board of Adjustments (BOA), Lawton Metropolitan Planning Organization (LMPO), and Air Quality campaign.

The mission of the Planning Department is to guide the orderly growth and development of the City, to enforce compliance with the zoning codes and the land use plan in order to meet the quality of life, health and safety needs of the community, and to deliver courteous and efficient customer service.
