There are multiple phases to the hiring process within the City of Lawton once you turn in a completed application. First, the applications are screened based on current City Code and the requirements of the specific job. Next, the Hiring Managers will review the applications to see if there are qualified applicants for their posted position. Once the Hiring Manager has selected the applicants s/he would like to interview, then s/he will contact the applicants by phone to schedule an in-person interview. Once all the interviews are completed, the Hiring Manager will make a decision on who they wish to hire. The Hiring Manager will notify Human Resources of their selection and the Hiring Manager will contact the applicant to call Human Resources to schedule the on-boarding process.
The Hiring Manager will make a conditional offer of employment to the applicant. The conditional offer is contingent on the satisfactory completion of alcohol/drug testing, a criminal and traffic history background check, and a physical if required for a specific job. There are also some jobs that may require a polygraph examination and a more extensive background check. There will be some paperwork at Human Resources that must be completed prior to any of the listed testing is conducted. Once all of the pre-employment requisites are satisfactorily completed, the Hiring Manager will contact the applicant and discuss a hiring date.
If you were contacted and participated in an in-person interview and are not selected to fill the position, you will receive an email at the address provided in your application or a letter notifying you that you were not selected. Our objective is to hire the best possible person for the position. If you are not selected for the position we encourage you to continue applying for other positions.
