Sherene L. Williams took office as Ward 7 Councilmember in January 2024. Her current term will expire January 2027.
Williams ran on a platform of “Building Up Our Community Together” and believes it takes a team to reach goals and improve our community. She has given selfless service to her country and the Lawton Fort-Sill Community. Williams retired from the United States Army at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, after serving 30 honorable years. Her branch was Signal Corp, a Communications Electronics Officer. She served in Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Qatar and is a combat veteran. Williams served in many different capacities in the military. Highlights include her time as a Signal Officer, responsible for $1 billion+ worth of contracts in Kuwait. She also served as a Logistics Director and was responsible for an estimated $2 billion worth of equipment in Afghanistan.
Williams retired from a major corporation, Sears, Roebuck and Company in management. She previously owned/operated Sherene’s Boutique in Lawton.
Williams currently serves on the Executive Board, Lawton Parent Teacher Association (PTA) as the Area Advisor. She is a member of the Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce and a prior business member of the Chamber of Commerce.
Williams is a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1193. Other community service efforts include:

-Member of Buffalo Soldiers 9th and 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association
-Served 7+ years on the Board of Directors for the Lawton Heritage Association
-Served on the Board of Parks and Recreation Commission for 8 years as Chair & Vice-Chair
-Former member, Optimist Club
-Silver Life Member of the NAACP, served as President, 2nd, and 3rd Vice-President
She is a Lawton native, who graduated MacArthur High School in 1981 with honors. She earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech/Drama and minored in Reserves Officer Training Corps (ROTC) from Cameron University. She was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 1986. Williams has a Master of Arts Degree in Management from Webster University in St. Louis, MO.
Williams is the daughter of a WWII Disabled Veteran, the late Norman Holman Sr. and Home Daycare Provider, the late Mrs. Pearlean Williams-Lawrence. Williams credits her grandmother, the late Mrs. Donnie Fludd for being instrumental in her life and the late Mr. Issac Williams and the late Sarah B. Williams for being exemplary examples in the Lawton Fort-Sill Community.
Williams is thankful for her great grandparents, the late Rev. Willie B. Smith and the late Victoria Smith – the Founders of St. Elmo Baptist Church and Union Baptist Church in Lawton, Oklahoma.
